Released from the magic pokey and paroled with limited power is enough to make any witch grumpy. However, if you throw in a recently resurrected cat, a lime-green Kia and a sexy egotistical werewolf, it's enough to make a gal fly off the edge.
Not to mention a mission...with no freaking directions.
So here I sit in Asscrack, West Virginia trying to figure out how to complete my mysterious mission before All Hallows Eve when I’ll get turned into a mortal. The animals in the area are convinced I'm the Shifter Whisperer (whatever the hell that is) and the hotter-than- asphalt-in-August werewolf thinks I'm his mate. Now apparently I'm slated to save a bunch of hairy freaks of nature?
If they think I'm the right witch for the job, they've swallowed some bad brew.

Robyn has an interesting style and you can definitely see the character's personality. Unfortunately, there was very little substance, it was annoyingly vulgar, repetitive, and it just ending up falling flat. There was so much story that could have been brought out. The characters were all very undeveloped and I had a hard time caring about any of them. Including the insufferable main character. I was seriously confused by all of the 5 star ratings. The filler at the end was very annoying. That should not be included in the page count. It is a shame.Product details

Switching Hour Magic and Mayhem Book One edition by Robyn Peterman Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Not for me.
The idea sounded cute for a light paranormal read, but I didn’t care for the execution. I’m not a prude (swear when I stub my toe, and read books with sex scenes…) but I don’t appreciate those that feel that profanity is part of every conversation. I don’t surround myself with people that talk like that and I don’t care to read books that force it in, my eyes feel like they pop when the words are just there without any strong reason for them. Another thing that didn’t appeal to me was the raunchiness factor. The amount of times the lead character refers to animals licking themselves and neutering them for it, everything was crass, crotch and couch confusion. And the language used, trying to fit into an age group? Example “redonkulous”. It felt forced. I finished the book because I generally do 99% of the time. It was light and not too complicated to figure out the ending.
[Spoiler alert]
I would have liked to known what happened to her friend from chapter 1 and her task. I didn’t read the included preview to book 2 so maybe it was in there.
It was free, had I paid for it, I would have been really upset at how much filler there was at the end, promoting the next book in the series. Always use the “look inside” tool from before you spend money! Your mileage may vary.

I know this is a story-series, but for the opening book, I was not overtly impressed enough by the characters telling it. If I were to rate this as a series, instead of a single book; I would have given it another star, but the Babba-Yaga (B-Y) jokes were just annoying to me. As this series progresses and the character evolves, I enjoy the character more and more.
As a stand-alone book, this is a quick and fast-paced story about a selfish and shallow witch, that's forced to be more than that. She changes, but not entirely because she wants to. The events in the story are told interestingly with a lot of colorful language which makes me like the story ... but for all those things I like, I am unable to get over the constant joke about B-Y name. I get that this character doesn't like B-Y, but I don't need her voicing it every time she says her name. This is a trend that continues in every book.
Zelda has just served a nine month sentence in the witch’es prison for killing her cat who just happened to be her familiar; it was an accident. A strong healer, what had her sentenced for so long was that she’d been using her magic for selfish reasons, conjuring up designer clothes as well as expensive cars and vacations. On her release she’s given back a portion of her magic and is on probation for a month and needs to complete a task during that time. Her aunt had left her a house and she’ll know what to do when she gets there. She had an aunt? If after a month’s time she doesn’t complete her task, all magic will be removed and she’ll become mortal. Only she’s not quite sure what that task is.
One of the things I’ve enjoyed about this author’s writings is the crazy main character she often comes up with. This one is selfish with not quite the intense potty mouth of another popular lead character. With Zelda, it’s the names she comes up with for others that stands out.
The situations are definitely unique and funny, but I found it difficult to like Zelda for a good chunk of the book. Due to her upbringing, she’s never been emotionally close with another and to protect her heart, just doesn’t want to establish connections with the people who like and appreciate her. Hang in there; it takes a while but things do change. And thankfully, the secondary characters are likable and interesting enough to carry the story until that time.
Are all those five star critics honestly okay with that infantile language and constant repetition of phrases? There is a fine line between getting creative with vocabulary and childish name-calling and word-mangling, and the author has clearly crossed it. By miles.
I liked the idea of the plot, hence still two stars. The execution however totally put me off.
I didn't like the main character one bit. She does not show any care for others, is looking down her nose at the world around her and radiates disgust at having to help others. She keeps telling everyone she is a selfish bitch which she seems to be proud of, rather than it coming across as regretful insight.
Her calling people and places names sounded like a five year old on the playground chanting cuss words she hopes may irritate adults. 'WTF' is overused, and while some phrases are funny the first time around, they get lame pretty fast when being repeated over and over again.
Any sex scenes fell flat for me with naming private parts Johnson or Woowoo.
Distinction of all other characters were made by looks/ appearances and no time was spent on highlighting their personality.
To me it felt like the author was racing through the story and couldn't wait to get to the end. What could have been a suspenseful story with sparks flying between the witch and werewolf just annoyed the heck out of me. I guess there's one thing I agreed with the author - I couldn't wait for the end to come.
